we want to be your photographers and bring your brand story to life.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. We know that brand photos are the first thing that potential customers notice and standing out from the crowd takes more than just being “insta-perfect.”
In today’s digital wild west, savvy consumers have learned how to spot the brands that are authentic and trustworthy from those that are just posing. Real trust is earned by showing the people behind the brand, highlighting the creative process that happens behind the scenes, and showing up in a way that sparks a genuine connection.
That’s where we come in. We take the time to get to know your story, learn your vision, and work with you to craft a personalized plan that brings it all to life through scroll-stopping imagery that tells your story – not just showcases your product.
No matter your brand’s style, energy, or voice – our mission is to help you reach your goals and elevate your brand with story-driven imagery that connects, captivates, and is authentically you.
Welcome to our online home! My name is Jason, and I’m the photographer behind Elemental Brand Photography. While I do love taking photos and creating visuals that are stunning and eye-catching, my proudest work always comes when I can help you expand your brand and capture new opportunities with captivating images! After all, together we can help each other reach new highs in our entrepreneurial journeys!
It’s important to know each other in deciding if we’re the best fit to work together and grow our brands together. Please scroll through the next few slides to learn a little more about me, my background, and my values. I look forward to working with you!
I grew up in Tacoma, Washington where I grew up loving to camp, play baseball, and learn. I did things a little different than most in that I started college when I was 15, graduating with my bachelor’s in Computer Software and System’s Design when I was 19 before entering gradschool in the same program, which I graduated from when I was 22.
While working on my graduate degree, I also began working my career at Boeing as a software engineer. During the next almost 20 years, I enjoyed working on unique, complex engineering projects, including high speed internet systems via satelite (many years before starlink was a thing) and complex military systems. While working on the main project during my tenure with the company, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing our systems all the way through – from the initial design of the systems I worked on, through the production of the aircraft and integration of our mission suites, and supporting our customer both domestically and internationally where I provided unique insight and skill to instruct how the systems operated and document issues and enhancements to improve the system for our customer.
After almost 20 years in engineering, I decided it was time to begin a new chapter – take new risks and build new relationships – and turn my enjoyment in photography into a new career. It has been amazing, allowing me to teach the skills I’ve learned to others as well as help other business owners create the visuals they need to build and strengthen their brands.
In the summer that divided the end of my bachelors degree and the beginning of my graduate degree, I had the unfortunate opportunity to be diagnosed with testicular cancer. A small pain in the lower back and an unusual lump on my testicle led me to question if the pain was from the side manual jobs I was working to pay for college, or if something more was happening. Knowing nothing about testicular cancer, my doctors confirmed that it was a cancerous growth and treatments such as surgery and radiation began immediately.
It was a wild ride – my quarter of grad school at the University of Washington starting while undertaking radiation that led to me being sick an average of 21 times a day. But more than that, it led to something more important – while friends and I joked about it (it was my coping mechanism to joke about it), I began to see that there was never conversations surrounding testicular cancer. They say 1 in 270 men will be diagnosed with it each year, but yet once I opened up and began talking about it – there were so many around me that had been diagnosed or had a friend or family member that was impacted by it. Since then, no longer have I shy’d away from the topic, instead choosing to spread awareness so others understand the importance of understanding their bodies and not avoiding topics that are important.
My battle with cancer had risidual fallout, as can be expected – including mental health issues at time and habits that formed out of fear of death – but I have to admit that I am proud of how I overcame this scary time in my life, battling for my health and overcoming such a scary topic at 19 years old.
From a young age, I developed values that I live by. To this day, they still define me, and I strongly abide by them in my everyday life. Let’s take a look:
Favorite Food: Tacos! With fresh made guacamole and salsa – there’s so much comfort in tacos for me – with that perfect amount of spice – it’s easy for me to understand why it’s my favorite food.
Dog or Cats: Like I said in my values – honesty is key. That’s why my response might sound like a cop-out: yes! I honestly love all creatures – dogs – cats – horses – reptiles – even spiders. I will admit, I love our two dogs more than all the others – but I still love them all. I’m just super allergic to cats!
Favorite Book: Wow, looking back on the last time I read a book, I know feel ashamed! Outside “Theory of Computation” or “Design Patterns Explained” and similar books (not enjoyable reads – for the record), it’s been a while – it’s it’s been a while since I read those, too! That said, my favorite book still has to be In the Company of Heroes.
Favorite Band: Unfair question – this is like asking “which friend is your best friend”. Just no! That said, there’s a list of some of the ones I can just sit back and listen to for hours, like: Pink Floyd, Corey Taylor, Chris Stapleton, My Chemical Romance, Tool, Zach Bryan – the list goes on, but those are currently pretty high on the list (also depends on what I’m doing – working out is definitely not the same as going to sleep).
Favorite Place: Maybe I just struggle with decisions! Again, there are so many! Sedona, Bend, most the national parks. I suppose if I had to choose – no other choice – it would likely be the Astoria, OR region between November and January – absolutely beautiful waves in the right conditions!
If you were to work with us, you’d see that I’d primarily be your photographer as I have the most comfort, knowledge, and experience behind the camera. Coming from years as a landscape and nature photographer, one of the cameras is always in my hands when we’re working together. I’ll also be doing the photo editing – whether you want more basic adjustments for a more natural, out-of-camera image or more advanced post-processing in photoshop.
In addition to being the photographer, I’ll also be in charge of laying out the lighting and other technical aspects of your photoshoot, making sure we get everything dialed in and perfect in camera.
I also work with Debbie in the consultation and phone tagups to make sure I understand all the details you want to capture for your brand as well as developing the plan for your photoshoot day.
Together we work very closely to ensure we are not diverging from your needs, we both understand your requirements, and that the photoshoot plan and execution go exactly how you want and need them to go.
I love it when a good plan comes together — but honestly, I enjoy the brainstorming and collaboration just as much as watching it all unfold. Listening to a client share their passion and vision for their brand – I am all about the unique little details – is what inspires me the most.
From our very first phone call to the final delivery, I’m here to make the process smooth, supportive, and stress-free. When things are thoughtfully organized, it creates space for creativity and confidence — and that’s where the magic happens.
I was born and raised in Washington State, not far from Mount Rainier National Park. As a kid, you could usually find me outside — riding my bike, building forts in the woods, playing with friends — or sprawled out, completely engrossed in my latest library find. Anne of Green Gables and the Laura Ingalls Wilder stories were some of my favorites.
As an adult, I attended the University of Washington, earning my special education teaching certification and Master’s in Education. I loved working in elementary schools, serving the most vulnerable students, and celebrating with them and their families as their skills grew. Those experiences taught me lessons in empathy, patience, and care that I carry with me every day.
After 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Jason and I started traveling extensively across the U.S. While we’ve experienced the beauty of the natural world, it’s the people we’ve met and their stories that have stayed with us. Meeting so many inspiring individuals along the way sparked the idea for Elemental Brand Photography: creating imagery that captures real stories and makes meaningful connections.
Life has taught me plenty of lessons, but there are two that have really shaped who I am today.
In my early 20s, I landed a job at Costco in the business delivery sector. It was a night shift and I was part of the crew that fulfilled business orders for delivery the next day. This fast-paced, quota-driven environment taught me to think logically, manage my time efficiently, and work as part of a team.
Around this same time, I was also working on my associate’s degree at a local community college. A little back story – I was homeschooled from elementary through high school, so stepping into a college classroom felt like being sprayed with a firehose! Those first couple of years were tough as I learned to navigate professors, assignment deadlines, and campus life. But through it all, I discovered what it really means to persevere, to have a little grit, and to feel the pride and excitement when hard work finally pays off.
Both experiences shaped how I approach everything I do today: with persistence, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for the process of growth.
The first time someone described me as reliable, I was about fourteen. Ever since, it’s been a core part of who I am. I take nothing more seriously than following through on what I’ve promised – it’s how trust is built, and it’s something I deeply value.
Kindness is another value I hold close. Simple acts, a smile; a small gesture; a kind word, can make all the difference in a world that sometimes forgets to slow down.
And finally, I believe in finding beauty in the little things. Watching shorebirds dance just out of reach of a wave, listening to eagles call to each other, or noticing how the afternoon light plays across the leaves of a forest fern — these quiet moments move me just as much as any grand mountain view. They remind me to stay curious, grounded, and connected — qualities I carry into every part of my life and work.
Fun fact: I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 18 — I used to walk everywhere or catch rides with friends.
We do what we say we’ll do — simple as that.
We turn your vision into imagery that tells a story, not just a pretty picture.
Your thoughts and ideas matter – we work with you every step of the way to bring your ideas to life.
We listen closely and focus on the unique details that make your brand shine.
We adapt to your needs and navigate every shoot with creativity and ease.
We love to travel the country in our Airstream. We especially love meeting new people and getting to know all about them. On our travels, we’ve met artists, entrepreneurs, and small business owners with incredible stories and ideas. But time and again, we noticed a common thread: brilliant work, but a limited digital presence to share it.
That realization sparked our mission — to capture these stories in imagery that connects, inspires, and helps brands reach their full potential. There’s nothing like partnering with a brand, creating images that are authentically them, and watching their eyes light up as they discover all the ways these images can elevate their business.
New places – new people – new adventures. We’re all about seeingand experiencing new things!
If we have a spare moment in the winter – you can catch us on the ocean chasing those big PNW waves!
Originally a software engineer and a special education teacher, the camera is now our work!
